The Starting Pointe

I've been wanting to learn ballet for as long as I can remember. It has always been my dream to dance in the Nutcracker. Maybe not as the lead, but just some role. I was never given the opportunity as a kid. My dad said I was too clumsy and ungraceful for it. My sister played sports and my mom had to take her and me being me I kept my mouth shut and did without. Needless to say I wasn't very involved in extracurriculars. Now that I am a college student I'm responsible for myself and I will be damned if I let anything or anyone stand in my way of getting there. There aren't many ballet studios near where I live, or at least none that appear to teach adults. So if it comes down to it I will teach myself. There's plenty of books and tutorials and videos out there. But first, the game plan. I am not in the best shape. Actually, it's pretty pathetic. I wheeze when I go up the steps and I'm kind of thin. I'm not looking to lose weight though. I'm pretty happy with my weight. I just want to tone up. And I figured it would be best if I was in shape before I attempted ballet. At least I would be less likely to give up when I fail the first than if I were to do so while not being in shape. So today I'm starting small. Nothing to crazy and intense (yet.) My game plan will last throughout September and October I will begin ballet on my own or at a studio. Each day I'll step up my exercising and slowly decrease my soda and sugar intake until I'm not drinking/eating any at all. (Coffee has to stay in my life.) I'm a vegetarian so cutting out fats shouldn't be too hard. I will do this! I will achieve my dream!
